the reaping movie review

I remember when I first saw the trailer in the theater, that’s pretty impressive.

We’ve some good actors here like Hilary Swank and David Morrissey. Pretty interesting plot something about supernatural (I’m a big fan of supernatural type of movies). So, I decided to put this into my “must see” list.

After watching it yesterday, although the movie has some boring moment overall it’s a good movie I think.

Hilary Swank as Katherine Winter is actually a former Christian missionary who lost faith after her family was killed.

After her life as missionary, she turned into a scientist and debunker tries to explain every so-called miracle with scientific explanation. One day, a stranger Doug (played by David Morrissey) asks her to investigate a small town which seems to be suffering from the 10 biblical plagues.

That’s how the story starts. The background of Hilary Swank’s character reminds me of Father Merrin (played by Stellan SkarsgĂ„rd) in the movie, Exorcist: The Beginning. Both of them had lost their faith in God. It’s just like an Exorcist’s character in an X-files movie. The difference is that we all know what happens in Exorcist. Apart from Exorcist, this movie also has some “Silence Hill” moment. A little town, total strangers with something fishy going on. Overall, the plot I think is quite interesting.

The special effects are pretty cool also. The most impressive ones are the red river and the locusts scene at the end.

If you’re a fan of paranormal and supernatural with a twist of religious related stuffs, I think you’ll like this one. It has some surprise moments as well as the ending.
